ROBLOX Myths, or just "Myths", are accounts or groups on ROBLOX that have a general story, normally conveyed through games. Myths are essentially characters from their own separate worlds that live through their own struggles and goals, and it is very common to see them collaborate in games. Versely, you had "Myth Hunters", who would go out to uncover the secrets of these Myths via going into groups into these Myths games, and try to uncover secrets. A lot of the time, you would have the Myth join the game, either to help the hunters, or to play along your character to give out clues. Although sometimes it would be very cringe, especially when the Myth was over-the-top edgy, it was a very inclusive and engaging form of playing the game that brought together many great story writers, game designers, and investigators who were interested in a fun little story.
Very commonly, Myths and hunters would join groups, such as the "Robloxian Myth Hunters" (the biggest one on ROBLOX), and encourage Myth hunters to join their game and investigate them. Although the bar of entry was low, as all you needed to do was make an account, a game, and a story, it was much more difficult to get recognition. YouTubers like Flamingo (formerly known as Albertsstuff) would give publicity to a lot of Myths, which helped give the entire community as a whole more recognition. Groups were a great way for both Myths and Hunters to congregate and build ties among the community.
There were common types of Myths, such as families (a select group of individuals who would share a game/house, with their own quirks and stories.), cults (individuals join to a larger mass, with a leader or oligarchy that lead it), and individuals (people who generally kept their characters to themselves, or the occasional pairing of another Myth).
Disclaimer: This section will bring up sexual and political themes.
There was never a designated date for when myth hunting has fallen out of fashion, however, it happened around 2022. The drama was one of the largest causes of it's death, specifically in a group known as "Roblox's Myths". The owner, Kazdam, who had started the group in mid-2014, began having explicit conversations ranging from 2019-2020 with his community members (majority of whom are minors.) Later in 2020, he was kicked from his position of power, and a year later the group was defunct (now replaced by "Bureau of Myths"). The exposee of Kazdam's doings, as well as rampant admin abuse (people who dissented the higher ups would be demoted/kicked), was performed by a popular myth named "Mugen", the creator of games like DVD MAN, M U G E N, and OMEN.
Around this time, creators like Flamingo stopped uploading videos, and shared their opinions regarding the drama (specifically for Kazdam). Individuals who were in major groups and communities began to feel unwelcomed, with the toxicity and corruption of the groups, and began leaving in droves. This large "walkout" became exponentionally worst with people no longer enjoying ROBLOX due to poorly thought out updates, and a changing demographic.
Another forgotten aspect of the ROBLOX Myth communitys downfall is the fall of ROBLOX itself. Although this deserves a page of it's own, ROBLOX's fall (starting roughly in late 2020, when they became publicly traded), caused individuals to leave from cliques that were sometimes the only reason they would engage with the game. Discontent players left ROBLOX as community members in general became much more toxic, such as "Slenders" or "Wannabe Gangsters", who were people who would sometimes online date (which is against ROBLOX TOS), LARP as gangsters, wear street clothes and ghetto clothing, acting tough, and overall imposing on other individuals. UGC made this problem far worst, and has invited many other groups of people, such as furries, political extremists, and fetishists. Many of the aforementioned groups would join or engage in myth hunting communities, and ruin the atmosphere.
Although many people express happiness for the downfall of the ROBLOX Myth community, and have many negative thoughts about it, it was arguably one of the most interesting and engaging aspects of ROBLOX and its online culture. The community gave many individuals a chance to either discover a new and interesting story, or to try and make one themselves. There is speculation that Kreekcraft, a ROBLOX YouTuber, will attempt to bring back Myths again, specifically by getting a group of developers to work on a story and game, and engage on Twitter. Despite this, it's fairly certain that ROBLOX Myths, and the community, are dead.
