Let me ask you a question: Do you ever get onto YouTube and see videos that hark on the end of time? Like: "The end is near! Everybody should be upset! Everything is going to be worst!". Unpleasant videos like this plague YouTube and social media, and it's gotten to the point where I ignore it. This is what is called "FUD", material that is designed to instill panic, confusion, and anger for the sake of having it stick to your mind.
I won't deny that bad things happen, that terrible events happen, and that you may hear bad news like a well beloved celebrity passing or some new Epstein scandal or that the economy is crashing down tomorrow. When you look past this, though, you realize that the people who create this content don't "genuinely" care about it. For the most part, these people get publicity, or even money, because all they talk about is bad news and scandals and drama, and it's super negative. It's really easy to have a negative disposition on the internet, because you may take everything you see as reality, and how reality is portrayed is terrible. Besides this, if you can't control this sort of stuff, what's the point of harboring it? It's an immense black hole that you harbor that saps your thoughts and energy, and..for what?
You aren't going to write a letter to congress, or start handling celebrity drama yourself, or even try to resolve a protest. Not because you can't do it, but because it is unimportant to you. You have your own battles to fight.
Luvstarkei made a YouTube video called "Protect Your Peace", and she made a lot of great points. For one, she mentioned how the reality portrayed on the internet tends to not reflect the reality that you're in, and I think it's an important distinction to make since TV had also done this, and it was what was able to radicalize people to different political spectrums (what made it worst was that there was no common discussion, and so corporations were in complete control of the discussion. The average person was just the viewer). Another thing she mentioned is that a lot of the content on the internet can be shocking, and most of it is made with the intent to shock and disturb, such as movies or websites with lots of free discussion. The choice is yours to view content on the internet, but you should acknowledge that you have the power to not need to see things you don't want to see.
I just wanted to close this blog by saying this: Protect yourself from negative content and drama. If you see a video talking about the next Epstein scandal, or how there are thousands of people being murdered daily, or that your economy is going to plummet, just acknowledge it exists, but move on. You don't need to be complacent, but you need to distance yourself from being harmed by this content. Take the steps you need to that you feel is right, and be able to move on.
